The largest living being on Earth!

The largest living thing on Earth is a mushroom: Armillaria Ostoyae.

It covers an area of 890 hectares, most of its mass is underground and is therefore unknown.

Its age is estimated between 2400 years and 8000 years.

By studying DNA samples taken from various places in this colony; we realized that it was one and the same organism, genetically speaking: a huge super-organism in the form of a multitude of genetically identical cells, whose total biomass could amount to more of 600 tons!

Scientists also believe that it was able to grow to such a size thanks to the humid climate of eastern Oregon.

Article by Valérie GONTERO-LAUZE published in “The Conversation” – February 24, 2022: “In the Middle Ages, mushrooms had a very bad reputation”.

If you are sensitive to the artistic looks of mushrooms in their natural environment; we recommend the beautiful works of Benoit PEYRE. Photographer and writer, he lives by mushroom shoots.

Mycophile passionate since early childhood (mycophile: person who loves mushrooms), he tracks and sketches with curiosity the unusual universe of small beings in the undergrowth.

Not satisfied with the level of quality of the photographs reproduced in the books by the main publishers, he chose to self-publish his very beautiful works.

Each of her photographs reproduced in her books is treated with a selective varnish, which makes each of them a masterpiece.

We have never seen such a level of excellence in photographic rendering before: you have the impression that you have in your hands an album of very high quality photographs, not a book.

We do not hesitate to say that the books of Benoit PEYRE are works of art in their own right. We let you judge for yourself.
